Southport-based telco takes home win for Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards

Gold Coast based mobile satellite communications company, Pivotel, has been awarded the Mayor’s Innovation GC Award at the 2018 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.

The international provider of satellite and mobile technology has been recognised for their innovative product suite, in particular the development of Australia’s first custom-built mobile network named ecoSphere® by Pivotel which fills the communication coverage gap for the agricultural industry left by major mobile telcos.

EcoSphere® by Pivotel offers long range, secure point-to-point voice, data, tracking and monitoring connections to assets across rural properties such as gates, pumps and machinery as well as employees, all within a private network which can continue to operate even when the internet is down.

Pivotel CEO Peter Bolger said the award is recognition of the culture of innovation that has existed with Pivotel since the company’s early days.

“The winners of the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards are shining examples of businesses doing great things on the Gold Coast and Pivotel are honoured to be recognised as front-runners in the Mayor’s Innovation category,” Mr Bolger said.

“Pivotel’s innovation is evidenced by our market success in Australia competing against some of the largest telcos in the country and has been acknowledged previously in the industry with our wins as satellite service provider of the year in both 2015 and 2017.

“We’re very proud of ecoSphere, a project which is highly innovative and collaborative as it brings together our business with grower groups and government departments to support new technology and new farming systems to be adopted by farmers to ensure constant communication in some of Australia’s most regional areas forgotten by large telecommunications carriers.

“At the heart of our success, is knowing we are only as good as our people. We’re proud that more than 50 percent of Pivotel’s staff members are Gold Coast residents, which I believe is a key driver in the company’s very low staff turnover and superior customer service,” Peter added.

In the past twelve months, Pivotel has experienced an exciting growth trajectory through the acquisitions of Global Marine Networks in the United States and Wright Satellite Connections in New Zealand, which has firmly placed the Pivotel brand into new markets and widened the scope of the company’s operations to include new commercial marine solutions, defence and aeronautical services.

“To be formally recognised by the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for our work in advancing communication and technology for rural areas of Australia is a true honour. From here, it is our intention to keep delivering innovative product solutions and offering high-quality customer service while growing the business both domestically and internationally.”
